Look at the splendour of your skies, your creative genius glowing in the heavens, when I gaze at your moon and your stars, mounted like jewels in their settings, I know that you are the fascinating artist who fashioned it all.” Psalm 8:3 PROMISE translation
Nature’s voice carries echos of heaven. Every leaf, blade and dewdrop has its own song of delight. The rain on a blustery afternoon recognises it’s Maker and splashes His praise. The mountains boom with declarations of His grandeur.
Our God is a, no, the, Creative Genius!
And you, dear daughter or son are stamped with divinity. Bearing His image, you encapsulate His ultimate act of creative joy – humanity is the very pinnacle of creation, the purpose for all else that exists.
Debate the existence of life on other planets all you like, toss your theories to and fro – I am content to believe that the incredible value of a person on this humble planet is reason enough for the vast expanses and innumerable galaxies. God simply signing His work on the black night canvas for us all to enjoy.
“Look at the heavens”, sang David, “they declare His glory.”
“See the skies and hear them speak!”
“Follow the sun as it dances through the day, and marvel at the moon as it croons in the night.”
Every molecule vibrates with Father’s love and creativity. Every atom spends its days whirling and rejoicing at His wonder.
This is our DNA. This is our Daddy. This, brother and sister, is our heritage of creative expression and boundless imagination.
Then David continues, I’m talking of course of Psalm 19;
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Psalm 19:7-10
His voice is heard with every brush of his mighty hand across the heavens and the earth, but is finely focused and perfectly heard only here, in His Word. This is where His Son, Jesus, speaks.
As artists, entrepreneurs and creatives we must, must, must… did I say must? Must make His Word a central part of our creative life on earth. The Bible must feature big in our daily routines, because it is here that the essential oil of creative power is boiled down to its essence and bottled for consumption.
“My words”, Jesus said, “are spirit and life.” John 6:63
The words of Scripture are more than mere marks on a page, greater than fine principles to furnish a religious life. NO! His Words are so much more than this – they contain the very life of the One who breathed their perfect beauty through imperfect human vessels.
People question the existence of extraterrestrial life. Let me close the debate here and now. Of course there is extraterrestrial life, and He lives in your heart if you have accepted Jesus as Lord. Moreover, that same earth defying life is right here in your hand every time to hold and open a Bible.
No other practice or discipline will feed your creativity more than falling in love with the words of Scripture.
Seek it out, write it down, speak it, sing it, rub it all over, make it front, left, right and center of your focus and pursuit – love it like you love the One who lives and breathes through the words on its pages into your heart and spirit.
Amen.
